About Us, History
What began as a Small-scale industry by a bold and enterprising individual 35 years ago has revolved into Sri Lanka’s biggest Bicycle manufacturer, catering to both local and international markets.
City Cycles was simply a trader at first, importing bicycles amongst other things like hardware, etc.
It was in the 1970s whilst importing bicycles from a reputed brand from India that due to a misunderstanding that goods were shipped and not informed, with the lack of communication and the slow means of getting a message across caused a massive penalty at the local port for goods not claimed, and the supplier not willing to take the blame made city cycle look for a new brand to import to Sri Lanka.

From 1975 to 1985 Lumala Branded bicycles were imported to Sri Lanka by city cycle, and during this time the Yen became a very strong currency making products like bicycle manufacturing impossible in Japan, as a result of the decade-old relationship Lumala Sold their Brand, along with its machinery and know-how to a budding Entrepreneur M.N.M Miflal (Chairman), who along with 10 others packed all the machinery & equipment and shipped it to Sri Lanka.
Thus began City Cycle industries manufacturing bicycles since 1984 and grown to a Factory with over 275,000+ Square feet located in Henamulla, Panadura. We are eternally grateful to our customers, patrons & well-wishers for being part of this journey with us Since 1975, this wouldn’t have been possible without your support.

About Us, International
Companies We Have Exported To

We at City Cycle Industries Manufacturing (Pvt) Ltd. (CCIM) are driven by Bicycles. We have expanded our horizons to the international Bicycle arena in 1997, to the middle eastern and African markets.
With International Quality standards met with 3rd party audits, we entered the Europe market in the year 2000, and then the Indian market in 2004. We went on to be Srilanka’s largest exporter with over 400,000+ bicycles exported in 2010.
In 2013, we were blacklisted by the European Commission under the anti-dumping pretence of us not manufacturing the bicycles (There were Chinese factories set up in Sri Lanka that were found guilty of this and the way factories were found guilty was imports were compared with exports based on Statistics, but the reason we were wrongly accused was they didn’t take into consideration our local business), we fought back taking them to courts in Brussels and won the lawsuit, which was appealed by the European Commission and we won that as well, to date we have been awarded the law fees and reinstated, as per our lawyers the European commission has been illegally holding our reinstatement. Click here to view the court rulings & letters by lawyers
Presently we are exporting to India, with the growing demand for bicycles made in Sri Lanka as they benefit from the SAFTA (South Asian Free Trade Agreement) with zero duty from Sri Lanka to India.
Feel Free to contact us and enjoy the Sri Lankan Advantage.

About Us, SUSTAINABILITY
A Bicycle simply uses 5% of the materials and energy of making a car, and being an excellent alternative that benefits the user, environment and the nation, that didn’t stop us from reducing our carbon footprint on this world!
We replaced Diesel and oils used for heating (painting, Phosphating etc.) with Eco-friendly briquettes using waste from the furniture industry that is closely situated to our factory.
